Feeling Your Way Through Life - The Meaning of the Astrological Moon

by Richard Swatton

The astrological Moon and its connection with the archetype of the Great Mother as well as virtually everything that exists within the material world (in horary it is said to co-rule everything), is notoriously difficult to interpret. This is because the Moon, through its sign, house and aspects, essentially describes our own individual and unique feeling responses to the world and ourselves - often very difficult to describe in rational terms. such moon responses so often stem from completely unconscious and automatic instinctual reflexes that we ordinarily have little time to understand them consciously.  Using the psychological interpretations of the moon as our natural empathic responses to life, the way we care for ourselves and others (or not), as well as it saying something about our our early experiences of bonding with the mother (the mother complex), this seminar attempts to illumine our understanding about the usually dark and often fateful realm of unconscious feeling reactions.

The seminar starts at 10.30am and finishes at 5.00pm.  Cost for the day is £35.00

The Principles of Astrological Interpretation

by Richard Swatton

Throughout my astrological teaching career encompassing a wide range of levels of practice, I regularly encounter a single and most major problem: faulty or ineffective interpretations due to the problem of a “mental blank” when students try to create an interpretation. This seminar aims to remedy some of these problems. It is intended to be both instructive and fun aiding those who wish to improve their skills at interpretation. Covering the concepts of correspondences and rulership, keywords and images, introducing an easy psychological approach, and blending the use of feeling-intuition (fantasy) with set methods of developing interpretation, we will look practically at how to develop meaning from the planets in signs, houses and aspects. Throughout the day using various exercises I have developed for instruction we will explore together (members of the group are encouraged to participate) how to piece together the elements of the birth chart into a meaningful whole as so aid the practice of sound and effective astrology.

The seminar starts at 10.00am and finishes at 5.00pm.  Cost for the day is £35.00 for non-members/£30.00 members.

The Saturn/Neptune Opposition - Riding the See Saw

by Darby Costello

Astrologically, 2007 is characterised by three powerful aspect signatures: the Saturn Neptune opposition; the Jupiter Uranus square, and; the Jupiter Pluto conjunction at the end of the year. The two Jupiter configurations offer opportunities that open meaningful pathways to the future, depending on where they fall in our charts. Navigating the Saturn Neptune opposition is the great task of this year. Where it falls in our charts and the planets it aspects, gives us the clues to where the real work lies; work that demands a reshaping of our self-image and our relationship to the world around us. During this day we shall explore the ways of doing this work, and being open to the opportunities that lead us into the future.

The seminar starts at 10.30am and finishes at 5.00pm.  Cost for the day is £35.

Venus and the Calling of Beauty

by Darby Costello

Venus is the planet of love, and symbolizes everything that brings beauty into our lives. The astrological Venus describes the magnet that draws pleasure to us. It comes to describe what we personally value in ourselves and in others and it tells what makes us bloom, amuses and entertains us, and what opens us to falling into love. When we neglect, despise, envy or resent Venus' gifts, we suffer grave consequences. This seminar will bring our attention to Venus in our charts. We will look at how its position and aspects circumscribe the conditions through which we 'enjoy' life. We will work with the charts of well known figures and also the charts of those in the room. Bring transparencies if you can.

Palmistry: Playing Palm Detective

by Frank Clifford

Palmistry is a fascinating subject and a useful, complementary tool for all astrologers. With this one-day workshop, we shall explore simple ways of extracting accurate information from the hands. There is no complex language or rules to learn; the workshop is designed to make the subject accessible and easily applicable. A workbook will be provided. Frank Clifford has been an astrologer and palmist for fifteen years, has written widely on both subjects, and his most recent book, 'Palm Reading', was published last year. He teaches astrology and palmistry at the London School of Astrology.

Vocational Astrology

The Earth Houses in Astrology: Working on the Self, Working in the World.

by Lynn Bell

All of us are 'called' to the world- this is the meaning of the word 'vocation.' While the midheaven describes the path we take through life, whether that is in a career or simply a way of being, the other earth houses show how we build value, and where we work and repair.  This describes both work on the self, and what we may be asked to do to earn a living, or to be part of society. Since many people suffer from a sense of disconnection in their jobs, it is important to see how these two processes, inner and outer, can be brought together.  We will look at how the chart gives meaning to what we do, and how it helps us to choose a satisfying path.

The seminar starts at 10.00am and finishes at 5.00pm.  Cost for the day is £30.00 for non-members/£25.00 members.

Divination and Prediction

Inner Meets Outer: The Dynamics Of Transits

by Richard Swatton

Richard Swatton will be running several seminars under the main title - The Astrology of Divination - for those astrologers who wish to explore indepth the wide range of techniques and methods available in astrological divination. By the term 'astrological divination' is meant is a mixture of predictive interpretation, prognostication and prophetic revelation, using astrological methods. And by 'exploration in-depth' is meant looking into the underlying meaning of the patterns explored from both a psychological and existential perspective.

Excellence in divination, however, calls not only for a thorough understanding of the methods themselves (transits, solar arcs, returns, event charts, secondary progressions, etc), but also sound techniques for engaging the symbols intellectually, intuitively and emotionally. What is required to produce worthwhile and genuine results are an invigorated intuition, proficiency in technique and a methodical approach, all three being demonstrated throughout the seminars. Each seminar therefore will introduce not only different astrological methods but also exercises for practising the various interpretative approaches

The first of these seminars concerns Transits which indicate periods of time during which certain necessary inner-psychological and existential developments will take place. Essentially transits help us adapt to outer conditions by triggering off inner potentials or patterns that need developing. By contemplating the nature of the transiting planet in combination with the natal chart we can understand the nature and meaning of these developments as well as any inherent potential within them. Transits are usually experienced at first as something impinging on our psyche from outside us. However, it is clear from modern astrology that they also indicate times when certain unconscious behaviours, attitudes and ideas 'inside us' need to be brought into consciousness. Methods and key-point guidelines to the interpretation of transiting Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto will be explored throughout the day along with a procedure of working with transit interpretation that prevents an overload of information.

Living with Squares

by Lynn Bell

Although we no longer think of squares as 'bad' aspects, they are not always easy to
live with. The Squares in our charts pull us backwards and forwards. They contain
conflicts that can be expressed as tensely with-holding or breaking out into overdrive.
How to unblock a square without roaring over everything in sight, or to put out the
sparks engendered by the active ones? We will look at the conflicts contained within
each square in order to better understand what drives us (and sometimes others)
round the bend. Squares are invitations to action, the first step to accomplishment. How
can we live with them in relative harmony? Bring a copy of your chart.

Lynn Bell is a Paris based astrologer with an active consultation practice. She is a
regular tutor for the Centre forPsychological Astrology in London, and has taught
for the Faculty summer school and the London School of Astrology. Widely travelled,
she has taught and lectured in many European countries, The United States,
Australia and New Zealand. She is the author of a book on family patterns in
astrology- Planetary Threads, and co-author of The Mars Quartet, with Darby Costello,
Liz Greene and Melanie Reinhart; Her articles have appeared in The Mountain
Astrologer, Apollon, Meridian, the AA Journal, and other publications.

Mars: The Drive to Excellence (or The Desire for Excellence)
including introduction to Saturn in Cancer

by Darby Costello

Mars is associated with sex, courage, anger, aggression and the drive to win
at any cost.  It is our warrior energy, and also the bully in ourselves.
There is another dimension to Mars found in the Greek roots of the word
Ares.  This is the notion of "excellence".  When we look closely at our
Mars actions, we can begin to see this drive under even our most awkward
expressions.  During this day we will explore Mars in the chart, in various
positions and aspects, looking for ways to uncover its drive towards
excellence.  We will also look at progressed Mars and what it signifies in
our lives.   At the end of the seminar, time permitting, we hope to  have a look
at Saturn's ingress into Cancer.  Bring your charts (preferably on acetate) to
participate more fully in the day.

Fee for the day is £35.00 non-members/£30.00 members.  Bookings to
Dawn Roffe DFAstrolS, Old Windsor Astrology Club, 12 Warrington Spur,

Astro*Carto*Graphy and Local Maps with Christeen Skinner

Today's astrologers need to be able to show where in the world events are most likely to take place as well as to be able to time them.  This seminar with begin with a brief run-down of astro-geographical techniques and move on to show how these can be used when studying progressions and transits.  The charts of famous personalities will be used during the morning programme.  In the afternoon, there will be opportunity for students to work with their own charts.  Local Space differs radically from Astrogeography. It can act on Feng Shui type principles and enables you to make the most of your environment by reflecting your chart in your home and in your locale. It can be useful to put Saturn items on your Saturn line but, perhaps, to have your bank on a less stern planet line. For this part of the day it would be helpful if you could bring an estate agents plan of your local area and a compass (neither are essential but both will make the session come alive for you).  When booking for this seminar, students should give their birth details so that astromaps may be prepared for them prior to the day.

Pluto: The Force of Necessity with Richard Swatton

The invisible god of the underworld, not only symbolises the process of death and dying ie the ultimate kind of transformation, but also the inevitable push of evolution itself that confronts us with the force of necessity and fate. Uranus transits awaken our minds to new possibilities and the anxieties that go with them - hopefully leading to new vision of life. Neptune transits tempt us into losing our sense of self by merging, usually on the emotional plane, with something all encompassing - hopefully leading us towards a sense of belonging to something greater. Pluto transits, on the other hand, insist that we lose our sense of self so that another more able and conscious self can be born to take its place. Whilst the meaning of Pluto transits are often one of spiritual transformation, in contradistinction to its meaning it is more often felt as something foreboding and fearful. By understanding its underlying purpose, however, it becomes more possible to hold the Pluto experience in consciousness thus helping us to prevent extraneous anxiety or many other problems that might ensue when simply reacting blindly.
