David Beckham, professional footballer, is renowned for his accuracy with the ball, particularly when taking free kicks. His chart has Mercury rising in Taurus, surely a signature for a sense of touch which has been honed through hours and hours of practise – the sign of Taurus being renowned for persevering and dogged determination. In addition David has a Capricorn Midheaven and is therefore someone who takes his career very seriously, is professional, who will set goals and attain them through hard work and being focused and eventually become very skilled in his chosen path. The Moon sitting in conjunction with the Midheaven shows him being in the public eye.
David has a Cardinal T-Square consisting of Jupiter in Aries opposing Pluto in Libra both squaring Saturn in Cancer. People with Cardinal T-squares are goal orientated (pun not intended) and have lots of drive and energy but can sometimes react too hastily (remember the World Cup 1998 game against Argentina!). Jupiter in Aries shows a very competitive nature made all the more so with its opposition to Pluto and this energy is connected to his career by Saturn’s involvement. Again this aspect pattern shows someone who is dedicated to pursuing his own goals.

Voted as one of the world’s most beautiful women, it’s appropriate to find Venus rising exactly on Angelina’s Ascendant – how she meets the world. However, she can also be quite controversial often talking about her breakdowns and disorders (such as pleasure from cutting herself) which is signified by a T-square to her Ascendant of Chiron opposition Uranus.
Angelina, famous as a successful actress, also became committed to humanitarian causes (Sun in Gemini in 11th opposition Neptune) after filming Tomb Raider in Cambodia and being made aware of the extent of the poverty. She began visiting refugee camps around the world, donating large amounts of her own money, and was eventually made a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations in August 2001 just as transiting Saturn was contacting her Sun. Her angular Jupiter, Moon, Mars stellium in Aries in the 9th has been put to good use fighting for other people in these third world countries.
Using AstroCartoGraphy her North Node conjuncts her Midheaven in Cambodia, the interpretation being a place where you come closer to fulfilling your destiny. Maddox, one of her two adopted children, comes from Cambodia. She gave birth to Brad Pitt’s daughter in Namibia where both her Sun and Neptune are highlighted.

Agatha Christie was born at the time of a Neptune/Pluto conjunction in Gemini. When any pair of outer planets form a conjunction they generally portend the beginning of a new and important stage in the development of the whole world.
In this case Neptune/Pluto suggests some kind of limitless transformation around communication (Gemini). And it was around this time that the world began to be linked by railways, steamboats and telegraph wires. Cars and aeroplanes were beginning to make an appearance as well as photographic film and radio – all very Geminian!
From a personal perspective, this pairing is in a helpful aspect in Agatha Christie’s birthchart to the planet Mercury (which rules writing) and it is fascinating that this writer of murder mysteries (Pluto/Neptune) often chooses for her victims to die by poison (Pluto/Neptune).
Her writing ability is evident in many ways in her chart: her vivid imagination and ability to communicate well is described by a lovely Grand Trine in Air; Mercury trine Neptune (imaginative writing) and her Sun rules her 12th house (often writers seek solitude whilst working and ‘escape’ into their fantasies). She also has the ruler of her career area in the 3rd house (writing) in Scorpio (thrillers).

Brad Pitt studied journalism and advertising, both subjects connected to his Sun sign Sagittarius (and ruling his 9th house of higher learning), but decided to pursue a career in acting. Acting work soon came flooding in, he became more and more successful and is now a Golden Globe Award winner. In his chart he has Venus strongly placed in her own house (2nd) making a lovely angle to the MC suggesting financial success - Venus also rules the 11th, the 2nd from the 10th, ie earnings from work.
Brad’s interest in architecture and setting up his own production company can be seen in his chart with four of his personal planets in the ambitious sign of Capricorn.
However, it is interesting to note that most of the planets in Brad’s chart are below the horizon indicating someone who’s private life is very important to him, possibly more so than his career.
His split
from Jennifer Aniston came at a time when transiting Saturn was sitting on
his Venus often denoting separation from a loved one. This was followed
during the whole of 2006 by the transit of Pluto to his Sun – a time of
major transformation. During this year he adopted Angelina Jolie’s two
children and fathered his own child with Angelina.

Demi Moore, had a difficult childhood moving over 30 times by the time she was 14. Her parents were verbally and physically argumentative to each other and also alcoholics. She was 15 when she found out by accident her ‘father’ was not her real father.
Demi’s choice of career – first as a model than as an actress – is shown by her Pisces Ascendant, Sun conjunct Neptune and MC ruler, Jupiter, in Pisces in the 12th house.
Unfortunately all this Piscean/Neptunian energy is also responsible for her own drug and alcohol abuse which got so bad in 1985 that she was fired from her role in St Elmo’s. At that time her Progressed Sun was squaring Pluto illustrating not only her close brush with death but also that it was time to completely transform her life. As a Sun Scorpio, with Pluto ruling her Sun, she had enough willpower to turn her life around. Her obsessive tendencies (4 planets in Scorpio, Moon trine Pluto) now focus on exercise.
Demi married Bruce Willis in 1987 with whom she had 3 daughters. They divorced in 2000. She is now married to Ashton Kutcher who is 16 years her junior, perhaps an example of a Virgo Descendant (marriage partner) ruled by Mercury - the eternal youth!!

For a characteristic to manifest an astrologer will look for the same theme to appear at least three times in the horoscope. Famous for his creation of Tarzan, Edgar Rice Burroughs’ writing ability is described by three personal planets in Virgo (Venus, Sun and Mercury) in the 5th house of creativity trine Neptune (imagination); Mercury (writing) in a supportive aspect (trine) to his Midheaven (career); and Saturn (ruler of Midheaven) in an air sign (communication). He’d previously been a salesman, clerical officer, peddler and pencil sharpener wholesaler (all associated with Mercury).
His third novel, Tarzan of the Apes, appeared in a magazine in October 1912 and his career took off. On 25th March 1932 MGM launched the first sound Tarzan movie starring Johnny Weissmuller which was when Edgar’s Progressed Midheaven moved in opposition to his natal Mercury and when transiting Jupiter was exactly square, to the minute, his Ascendant (this same aspect occurred when his book was published in 1914). In both cases, as well as when his Tarzan novel was published, transiting Pluto was making a helpful aspect to his Progressed Midheaven.

Helen Mirren recently made the headlines when she became the first female actress to be nominated for three acting performances at the Golden Globe Awards in the same year. She won Golden Globes for The Queen and Elizabeth 1 and also the 2007 Academy Award for Best Actress for The Queen.
Unfortunately we don’t have a time for Helen’s birth (a noon chart is used) but it is known her father was a Russian aristocrat. Helen has a powerful Sun in Leo conjunct Pluto which describes her father’s powerful position.
Leo is a sign which needs recognition and also describes a creative, often dramatic type of energy. A Sun Leo person wants to be noticed and with Pluto as part of the equation, the subject tends to come across as extremely powerful. Being an actress is a wonderful way of expressing this energy and Helen has been able to transform (Pluto) herself completely into her many different roles.
Leo is the sign associated with royalty and on several occasions she has portrayed queens, namely Queen I, Queen II and Queen Charlotte. It comes as no surprise that she received/has been nominated for awards for these three films.

Jamie is an internationally renowned English chef who became famous after his TV series, The Naked Chef - soon after releasing a book of the same name. He now has his shows broadcast in over 50 countries. Neptune opposes his Sun and his first choice of career was as a pop star - very Neptunian. However, he has become a familiar face on TV and in the media (Neptune) and at the launch of The Naked Chef transiting Pluto was sitting on Jamie’s Neptune demonstrating how powerful he was to become.
Someone with both the Sun and Mercury in Gemini are going to be characteristically chatty and in Jamie’s case his choice of language has become his trademark. Words such as ‘pukka’, ‘beautiful’, ‘nice one’, often being used.
He has a
Cancerian Midheaven suggesting a career in the catering industry, with its
ruling planet, the Moon, in Capricorn – a second indication of working with
food. His Moon is in a tight T-square with Pluto and Mars (all planets
strong because they’re angular) and he has been quoted as saying he is
obsessed with (Pluto) and driven (Mars) by food. He even has Venus
conjunct Saturn in Cancer – suggesting a lifelong love affair with food!!

Julie Andrews became famous after appearing in films such as My Fair Lady, Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music, and more recently The Princess Diaries.
People with Mercury ruled Ascendants often look younger than their years and in Julie’s case this is certainly the case – she looks great for her age.
Her perfect pitch singing voice is illustrated, not only by Venus (ruler of her Sun sign Libra) in the sign of the perfectionist, Virgo, in the 12th house opposing Saturn in Pisces in the 6th house but also by Mercury (voice) in Gemini, being square to Pluto (adding power) and opposing Uranus making it so original. In fact she is probably more famous for her singing than her films.
She’s been referred to as the Ice Queen and Dudley Moore is quoted as saying ‘but you don’t have to chip very far to get at the fire’ – a wonderful description of her Moon in Scorpio, with the traditional ruler (Mars) residing in the fire sign of Sagittarius.
In June 1997 Julie underwent routine surgery on her vocal cords and has never regained the voice she has been renowned for – transiting Pluto (death) was conjunct secondary progressed Mercury (voice) during this time.
Since 1999 Julie has had more than 13 children’s books published – often those with Gemini Midheavens have more than one career (Gemini being the sign of the twins).

Julie Walters, award winning British actress and comedienne, has a lovely theatrical Ascendant with Leo on its cusp. Leo rising people are those who like to make an entrance – the more dramatic the better – although her Sun, Leo’s ruler, is in a ‘hidden’ area of her chart so she will need to keep her private life just that - private!
Her Sun is in Pisces, a sign noted for its chameleon-like properties, meaning she has the ability to become someone else. Her Leo Ascendant, Sun in Pisces and Pisces ruler Neptune being in a particularly strong position, all support her choice of career.
Julie often worked with Victoria Wood and is most famous for her part as Mrs Overall in the spoof soap, Acorn Antiques. Julie went on to appear in many films in the UK, turning down offers to go to Hollywood (her Sun ruler Neptune is in the 4th house suggesting she prefers to stay close to her roots), such as Educating Rita (for which she was awarded a BAFTA), Buster, Billy Elliot, Calendar Girls and has so far appeared in four Harry Potter films.
Her quirky sense of humour is shown by Mercury in the sign of Aquarius, a sign connected to original and eccentric ideas.

Meryl Streep is one of the most respected and talented actresses of her generation overtaking Katherine Hepburn’s previously held record of 12 when she was nominated for an Oscar for the 13th time in 2003.
Many of her roles have required a new accent – a talent shown by Mars, ruler of her Midheaven, conjunct the planet of communication, Mercury, in Gemini – a sign associated with mimicry as well as Mercury trine Neptune in Libra in the 3rd house of communication.
Meryl Streep loves the transformation which comes with each new role – fitting for someone with their Sun conjunct Uranus – planet of change. She spends much time preparing learning a new language (Polish and German for Sophie’s Choice) or taking on a punishing fitness routine three hours daily, as was required for her role in The River Wild. Saturn in Virgo (perfectionist) contacts her Sun.
Something which isn’t perhaps so well known is her role as a campaigner for many well known causes such as aids, the arts, children’s health, equality for women in third world countries, American forests, to list but a few. She has several 11th house planets, including her Sun, reflecting an interest in humanitarian issues.

Orlando Bloom, English actor, got his big break into acting when he appeared in ‘The Lord of the Rings – The Fellowship of the Ring’ in 2001. With Neptune at the Midheaven (career area) of his chart acting is a good path to follow and at this time transiting Pluto was passing over both his MC and Neptune suggesting a major transformation connected to his career/status.
Orlando’s adoptive father died when he was four. His progressed Sun would have been exactly square Chiron at this time.
His natal Sun trine Jupiter shows up in lots of different ways in his life – he speaks French, he can ride a horse bareback (while shooting an arrow) and he learnt archery – all for Lord of the Rings.
He has 3 ‘A’ levels – in art and sculpture, photography and religious studies. The art and photography are shown by Neptune on the Midheaven, Venus in Pisces and Saturn trine Neptune; sculpture is associated with Saturn/Capricorn and he has his Sun in Capricorn; Religious Studies is Jupiterian.
When he was 21 he accidentally fell three stories and broke his back. Doctors told him he would be unable to walk again but surgery repaired his back and he left hospital within 12 days. Transiting Pluto was semi-square his Sun and this was definitely a near death (Pluto) experience.

Paula Yates, TV presenter and writer, stood out from the crowd with her bleached-blonde hair. She is described as ‘original with an effervescent personality’, and had unusual sparkling china blue eyes and possessed a flamboyant wardrobe - all attributed to the planet Uranus sitting on her Leo Ascendant.
One of her Grand Trines is in the fire element, a configuration where energy flows easily between the planets and where little effort is required. In Paula’s case Mercury, Jupiter and Uranus illustrate her writing ability; her witty, but razor sharp intellect and also someone who was a ‘voracious reader’. She was also described as an ‘olympic flirt’ which is evident from her Venus in Gemini (sign of twins – more than one) in the 11th house (of friendship).
What is quite extraordinary is the composite charts between Paula and Bob Geldof and Paula and Michael Hutchence. A composite chart is the midpoints of the two natal charts forming the chart of the relationship. In Paula and Bob’s there is a Sun/Venus exact conjunction in Cancer and in Paula and Michael’s there is a Sun/Venus exact conjunction in Pisces. This is something I’ve never come across before but is evidence there was a strong love attachment to both men!

Christened Richard Henry Sellers, but bizarrely called Peter in memory of his stillborn brother, it perhaps wasn’t surprising to see Peter Seller’s Virgo Sun ruler and ruling planet of the chart, Mercury, not only sitting next to the planet of invisibility, Neptune, but also both residing in the 12th house (Neptune’s natural domain) – which suggests his own identity was unseen/unknown!
But it’s also equally fascinating to note that this same Mercury/Neptune conjunction in the 12th house is also connected to Peter’s career as Mercury rules his Gemini Midheaven – the Midheaven being the career Angle in a birthchart when drawn from an accurate birth time – and aptly describes his ‘behind the scene’ radio broadcasts.
But as any budding astrologer will know, every pair of planets has numerous meanings in the way they play their part in someone’s life and to continue with this same pairing, not only was Peter Sellers recognised as a master Impressionist but he was also well respected for his ability to ‘get in and out of character’ at amazing speed. Inspector Clouseau, his character from the Pink Panther films, was a ‘master of disguise’ – another excellent description of this very same Mercury conjunction Neptune!

Peter Shilton (England goalkeeper 1970 to 1990) still holds the record for
the most international appearances of all time with 125 caps. His work rate
and training schedule was legendary – perhaps not surprising for someone
with both the Sun and conscientious Saturn in Virgo encouraging him to
strive for perfection by systematically improving his expertise.
Saturn’s movement through the zodiac (transit) can bring recognition - as indeed it did when transiting Saturn was opposite Shilton’s Sun throughout 1966/7 when he began playing professionally for Leicester. In fact he played so well during this transit he ousted Gordon Banks as Leicester’s No. 1 goalie!
In November 1970 he had his England debut. He became No. 1 goalie after Banks’ retirement in 1972 but this honour was short-lived when Ray Clemence joined the squad, only regaining the No. 1 position in 1984 when transiting Jupiter, planet of success, was making a trine (harmonious link) to his natal Sun and Jupiter.
Shilton continued playing for England until the 1990 World Cup and went into management just when transiting Saturn (extra responsibility) was making a very positive aspect (trine) to his Sun.

Richard Branson, British entrepreneur of the Virgin group, has Pluto conjunct his Leo Ascendant. This is an extremely powerful position and, in Richard’s case, he seems to be able to create something out of just about everything. He’s a self-confessed workaholic (angular Pluto suggesting he can be an obsessive person; by Moon in Virgo - a need to work and be of service - and Saturn in Virgo - an expert in the business world - and his work focuses mainly on the entertainment industry (Leo).
His mother seems to have been a huge influence on him, teaching him survival skills at a very early age – at 4 years old leaving him several miles from home so he could find his own way back!! She also believed anyone could change the world, was always generating work for her children and thinking of ways to make money – Moon in Virgo.
Richard’s angular Pluto manifests in other ways too. He cannot stand not being in control and also places himself in very dangerous situations ie he had to swim for his life when the fishing boat he was on sank (progressed Sun was also conjunct Pluto); when trying to win the Blue Riband record for the fastest boat to cross the Atlantic – during his first attempt the hull split in two; when his first hot air balloon ditched in the sea.

Robbie Williams is a very successful British singer/songwriter who became famous during the early 90s as part of the boy band Take That. He left to go solo in 1995 and has never looked back. Robbie has an Aries Midheaven and is therefore better suited to doing his own thing. His Midheaven ruler, Mars, is in Taurus – the sign associated with singing.
Robbie is an Aquarian and Aquarians are often rebellious and outspoken. His Sun sits very close to the largest planet in the solar system, Jupiter, which has resulted in his larger than life personality, his sense of humour, his enthusiasm and his self-confidence. However, this same combination can be over the top, can highlight difficulties doing things in moderation (drink and drugs) and the person can have an over-inflated sense of self. It is interesting one of his albums is entitled ‘The Ego has Landed’! Robbie has been reportedly free of drugs and drink since 2000.
Robbie has been linked with lots of women and has always said he has wanted to settle down and have children. Apart from the Sun/Jupiter combination in the 8th house of sex, it’s quite possible his Venus square Uranus desires too much freedom and breaks up relationships before they’ve had time to grow.

A glamorous and sexy actress described as such by a lovely Venus/Neptune conjunction trining her Ascendant (the way she meets the world). Sophia was noticed at a beauty contest by a film producer called Carlo Ponti – both modelling and films come under the rulership of Neptune. They fell in love and married in 1957. However, under Catholic Italy’s law, Ponti’s previous divorce in Mexico wasn’t acknowledged and he was eventually charged with bigamy. Transiting Neptune was conjunct Sophia’s Midheaven (her status) at the time of the marriage illustrating not only her new marital status but also the scandal, disappointment and eventual dissolving of the marriage which was annulled in 1962 when Neptune had moved towards the exact square to her Venus. There was much gossip concerning the marriage of this beautiful woman to a short, portly producer and Sophia herself said, “I needed a father. I needed a husband. I was adopted by Carlo and married my father.” Her 7th house cusp, which describes her marriage partner, is ruled by the Moon which is conjunct Saturn – the planet associated with the father!! It wasn’t until 1966 that they became legally married and are still together to this day.

Steve Irwin was an Australian conservationist whose family’s philosophy was to set new benchmarks for the protection of the world's environment and humanity. Steve’s stellium in Pisces (the rescuer) opposing Pluto in Virgo describes the extremes he went to and the dangers he encountered whilst saving endangered species in the animal world.
Steve’s parents bought their first 4 acres of land in 1970 and turned it into a reptile park. In 1987 they built the Crocodile Environmental Park and Steve spent much of the 80s finding and saving crocodiles – very fitting for a Sun in Pisces. It was from here Steve’s famous Crocodile Demos began.
He married his wife, Terri, in June 1992 after which his parents handed over management of the park to them and at which time it was renamed Australia Zoo. Their crocodile trapping honeymoon was filmed and was shown on Australian TV in 1996 when transiting Saturn was conjunct Steve’s Progressed Sun – after which he was known as The Crocodile Hunter.
Steve met his death whilst filming a documentary called ‘Ocean’s Deadliest’ when he was fatally pierced through the heart by a Stingray barb whilst snorkelling at the Great Barrier Reef. Transiting Jupiter (often connected to going on a journey) was conjunct Steve’s Neptune in Scorpio (Neptune rules the ocean and Scorpio the sting in the tail).

During the 1950s a French scientist, Michael Gauquelin, conducted a statistical research project into the position of Mars (The Mars Effect) in the birth charts of eminent sportspeople. He found Mars was often angular (in conjunction to the Ascendant, Midheaven, Descendant or IC) although in more cases it was found to be either near the Ascendant or the Midheaven. If you look at Tiger Woods’ chart you will see Mars is culminating (near the Midheaven) and he has certainly accomplished a great deal in the world of golf.
Incredibly at only 3 years old Tiger shot a 48 over nine holes and as his coach his father tried constantly to distract him whilst he played in order to teach him to focus on his game. With a Virgoan Ascendant and both the Sun and Mercury in Capricorn he is renowned for being focused as well as disciplined, conscientious, industrious and ambitious. In 2002 he won the US Masters for the third time back-to-back, only the third player ever to do so.
Tiger’s Sun has moved (progressed) and over the coming year or so the Sun will be making a truly wonderful aspect to his natal Pluto suggesting he is going to be even more triumphant.

Victoria Beckham became famous in the 1990s as a member of the Spice Girls - one of the most successful UK female groups of all time. She married David Beckham, ex England footballer in 1999.
Victoria is a Sun Aries – she is direct in her manner, needs to be kept active and has a competitive streak – Aries do like to come first after all! As a cardinal sign, Victoria is ambitious, needs to be challenged and likes to have projects to focus on. However, although she might not show it, she is also quite vulnerable, shown by Chiron sitting right next to her Sun, and her originality and ability to stand out from the crowd is shown by the opposition from these two planets to Uranus.
Her singing talents and love of fashion are shown by Venus conjunct Jupiter in Pisces, her Midheaven trine Neptune (although this might not be in orb depending on her birth time) as well as Mercury trine Neptune.
She doesn’t have any planets in Earth which means she may not in touch with her physical body and this might go some way to understanding her ability to be so slim – lack of Earth often manifests as forgetting to eat!
She’s often photographed with other celebrities and works hard at networking (Mars conjunct Saturn in Gemini).
